Minneapolis, MN -- Ward 7 City Council candidate Katie Cashman won the first round of votes reported on election night by 61 votes to opponents Scott Graham and Kenneth Foxworth. Katie was announced the unofficial winner, securing a 177 vote lead on November 9th around 10 AM after the second round ranked-choice tabulation.
This is the first time the Ward 7 City Council seat has been open since 1998. Katie earned the trust of Ward 7 voters and a broad-based coalition of supporters by campaigning on a message of optimism and a vision of a vibrant city where we all can thrive. She is confident that her class of Councilmembers will build a bright future for the residents of Minneapolis.
Katie engaged residents across race, class, age and housing status to shift the dynamics of engagement in Ward 7. The campaign knocked 22,000 doors, had 134 unique volunteers contributed their time and energy to the campaign, and raised nearly $75,000 from majority-small-donors across the Ward.
Katie continues to be committed to transparency, being accountable to residents, and continuing Lisa Goodman's record of excellent constituent services. She also looks forward to partnering with fellow Ward 7 candidates and dedicated public servants Kenneth Foxworth and Scott Graham to advance her vision for a vibrant and sustainable city.
City Councilmember-Elect Katie Cashman says:
“I know we can accomplish the vision I campaigned on — that thousands of people resonated with — because I know my community. I have met so many of our neighbors throughout the last ten months of campaigning. I am honored that they shared their hopes and dreams about our ward and city with me. I am hopeful for all that the future holds in Minneapolis. I really feel honored that I will have the opportunity to serve my community.”
Katie Cashman is a renter, sustainability expert, policy advocate, and the next Councilmember of Ward 7 in the City of Minneapolis.
